Bowl for Kids Sake

Amazing Racers,

The Local Drafts are committing to keep our team together to participate in the Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser in March 2009. We want to thank Nathan Larrison for recruiting these beautiful children to share this picture with us.

Look for an email challenging the rest of the Amazing Race Teams to join us in the Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser. We talked with Laura Moses, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters director and she is hoping to see a lot of YPs showing off their bowling skills in 2009.

Cheers,

3 Men and an Engine

Amazing Racers,

In the foreground are the Local Drafts. In the background, there is a Cummins engine suspended part by part from the ceiling. It is very sophisticated. We none really understand it.

We do understand that the CB's Diesel Oil Stout is a great local microbrew.

We are sad that Patrick couldn't join us for the end of the Amazing Race. We look forward to reuniting at the Halloween Party.

Cheers,

The Local Drafts

History Majors Unite

Amazing Racers,
Eric, the history major, finally found his calling when he volunteered the Local Drafts to sell Historical Homes tour tickets at the Ethnic Expo. Unfortunately, the Local Drafts did not have much success in sellling tickets. However, we did hand out a number of brochures and judging by the large number of tickets sold, we would like to take credit for some moral support.

Taste of India

Racers,
As we volunteered selling tickets for the Historical Homes Tour, we stopped for a "non-vegetarian" lunch at the India booth. Our friend Raj took our orders as we stood in a long line. The wait was well worth it as we enjoyed curry and rice and samosas. We also were able to say hi to Sabby Sabapathy, the president of the India Association.
If you haven't tried the Taste of India restaraunt near Starbucks on National Rd., we strongly suggest you try the lunch buffet.

Jon Myers Places 2nd at CYP Golf Tourney

Amazing Racers,

Although none of the Local Drafts were able to muster a single hole-in-one, Jon Myers through consistent play was able to get into a one hole playoff with four others. Jon pulled off another 2 and was able to take the silver trophy. Cheers to Justice League for the banner and taking the gold trophy! We look forward to a competitive final leg as the Local Drafts play for a bronze. Best wishes to Justice League and the Tri-Tans as they battle for the grand prize on Oct. 30th.

Cheers,

The Audacity of Hope Heritage Days

Amazing Racers,
After our volunteer effort for the Mayors Walk and our tour of the Driftwood Valley Music Festival, we drove out to Hope for a quick run around. We were impressed by the amount of booths and activity going on in the square. Cheers to Mr. Dillman, who was honored this year for his many years of dedication to Bartholomew County and specifically Hope. We couldn't stay long because our next event was the Obama-McCain debate. Although it wasn't an official Amazing Race event, we joined with other CYPers to do our civic duty of educating ourselves on issues. The Local Drafts voted 2-1 in favor of Obama.

Iron, the other expensive metal

CYP,
I want to take a moment to point out Ben Stilson on the right of the picture. He is not actually wearing the shirt, he is laying it on top of his outfit. It's uncanny how much it looks like he's wearing the shirt. I hope this moment of honesty doesn't deduct any points.
The lady in the middle of the picture is Kathryn Burris, who is the member of the Arts Council who puts together the Iron Pour. We were very impressed by the art on exhibit as well as the live demonstrations. However, we had no idea iron artwork can cost!

Preparing for Mayor's Walk

CYP,

In all honesty, what you see here is an effort to finish tying down one of the tents that would be used the following morning for the Mayor's Walk. Eric had contacted the folks responsible for putting up the tents and they told us to arrive at 5:30 pm on Friday. We arrived to find the tents already up. What are the local drafts to do? We tightened the tents in case of high winds and then made our way across the lawn to the Iron Pour.

Cheers,
